Every bicycle used during dark hours, as defined by RCW 46.37.020, must have a front light that emits a white light visible from at least 500 feet, and a red reflector on the rear approved by the state patrol. The red reflector must be visible from up to 600 feet when in front of a motor vehicle's lower beam headlamps. A red light that is visible from 500 feet or a flashing taillight using a light-emitting diode that is visible from 500 feet can also be used in addition to the red reflector.
