Section 60-6,318 outlines the equipment required on bicycles used on highways. Here are the requirements:

  1. At nighttime, a bicycle must have a front light visible from at least 500 ft and a red reflector on the rear approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles or a local authority. The red reflector must be visible from 100 to 600 feet to the rear when in front of lower beams of headlights on a bike. A red light visible from 500 feet to the rear may also be used.
  2. A bicycle used on a highway must be equipped with a brake or brakes that allow the operator to stop the bicycle within 25 feet when moving at 10 mph on dry, level, clean pavement.
