The 2013 North Dakota Century Code, Title 39 Motor Vehicles, Chapter 39-10.1 Bicycles, outlines the following requirements for bicycles:

  1. Bicycles used at nighttime must have a white lamp on the front that is visible from at least 500 feet (152.4 meters) in front, and a red reflector on the rear that meets departmental approval. Additionally, a red lamp visible from 500 feet (152.4 meters) in the rear may be used with the red reflector.
  2. Bicycles must have a brake that allows the biker or the operator to make the braked wheels skid on dry, clean, level pavement.
